# Choose the Right Service Type

> Choose the Newie service type that matches how the customer pays.

## Overview

Choosing a service type means matching the offer to the way the customer pays. Start with payment shape, not delivery method.

## Service Type Comparison

| Customer pays for... | Newie setup | Use this because... |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Ongoing coaching, membership, retainer, access, or regular service | **Subscription** | Newie keeps billing on the schedule you choose until the subscription is canceled or ends. |
| A program that bills on a recurring schedule but should stop after a fixed term | **Subscription** with **Number of Payments** set to a fixed number | The customer pays the same recurring amount, then billing stops after the selected number of payments. |
| A single session, appointment, deposit, paid-upfront package, digital download, workshop, or one-time purchase | **One-Off Purchase** | The customer pays once and no recurring billing record is created. |
| A fixed total split across scheduled payments | **Instalment Plan** | Newie collects each scheduled instalment and you receive each payment as it is made. |

For customer financing on an eligible one-off purchase, use BNPL when it is enabled for the account. The customer pays the BNPL provider over time and you are funded upfront for the purchase amount, less applicable fees. For scheduled payments you manage in Newie, use an Instalment Plan.

| Eligible one-off purchase with customer financing | One-Off Purchase with BNPL enabled |
| Course, retreat, or package paid over scheduled instalments | Instalment Plan |

## Fixed-Term Subscription or Instalment Plan?

Use a fixed-term subscription when the customer is buying a recurring service that happens on a regular billing rhythm, such as 12 weekly coaching payments.

Use an instalment plan when the customer is paying off a fixed total, such as a package price split into scheduled payments.
