# Customer Purchase Flow

> What happens after a customer buys through a link, QR code, Store, Tap to Pay, or Purchase as Customer.

## Overview

Customer checkout can start from a link, QR code, Store page, Tap to Pay session, or assisted purchase in the app. Newie then handles the payment, receipt, purchase record, and any service email attached to that sale.

## After a Customer Buys

<Steps>
  <Step title="Checkout starts">
    Checkout can start from a service link, Store, QR code, Purchase as Customer flow, or Tap to Pay.

    For Tap to Pay and Purchase as Customer, you start the flow from the Newie app.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Customer pays or starts the plan">
    The customer completes payment, starts a subscription, or begins an instalment plan.

    This can happen before service delivery, at the time of delivery, or after the service has been delivered.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Newie sends purchase and onboarding emails">
    Newie sends the New Purchase email.

    If Terms of Service is enabled, the customer agrees before checkout and the agreed terms record is included with that purchase email.

    If Digital Downloads is enabled, the New Purchase email includes the download link. If you configured a Welcome Email, Newie sends onboarding details.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Automations run">
    Matching Zapier automations can run after supported Newie events if you have connected them.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Newie handles ongoing billing">
    Ongoing billing is handled by Newie: subscriptions renew on schedule, and instalment plans collect payments until complete.
  </Step>

  <Step title="You deliver the service">

  </Step>
</Steps>

## Post-Checkout Messages

The New Purchase email handles the payment record, agreed terms, and digital download when those apply. The Welcome Email handles onboarding and next steps.

For the detailed onboarding version, see [Use Welcome Emails to Onboard Customers](/guides/welcome-emails-onboarding).
