# Payment Methods & Availability

> Manage accepted payment methods and understand where cards, Apple Pay, AU Bank Account, BNPL, and Tap to Pay apply.

## Overview

Newie payment methods are controlled by Stripe eligibility and by the way the provider account is set up. Country, currency, device support, customer method, and account status all affect what appears at checkout.

## Payment Methods at a Glance

| Payment Method | Where it applies | Notes |
| ---------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Card / Apple Pay** | Subscriptions, one-off purchases, and instalment plans | Apple Pay depends on customer device support and Stripe availability |
| **AU Bank Account (Direct Debit)** | Accounts where AU Bank Account is available | Bank confirmation typically takes up to 3 business days |
| **Buy Now Pay Later** | Eligible One-Off Purchases | Customer pays through Afterpay/Clearpay, Affirm, or Klarna; you are funded upfront less applicable fees |
| **Tap to Pay on iPhone** | Eligible in-person purchases in the iOS app | Requires supported iPhone, Tap to Pay setup, payout setup, location, and Available for Sale service |

Newie does not support PayPal, BPAY, or split payments across multiple cards as Newie-managed payment methods.

## Manage Accepted Payment Methods

Open **Accepted Payment Methods** to manage the payment methods available for new purchases.

* On iOS, open **Settings → Payments & Payouts → Accepted Payment Methods**.
* On macOS, open **Settings → Payments & Payouts → Accepted Payment Methods**.

Account-level options include:

| Setting | What it controls |
| ---------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Card / Apple Pay** | Card payments and Apple Pay when Stripe and the customer's device support it |
| **AU Bank Account (Direct Debit)** | AU BECS Direct Debit when supported for the account |
| **Afterpay / Clearpay** | BNPL when enabled and eligible |
| **Affirm** | BNPL when enabled and eligible |
| **Klarna** | BNPL when enabled and eligible |

Changing accepted payment methods affects new purchases. It does not change existing customers or existing billing agreements.

If Newie shows **Action Required**, tap **Update Now** to continue to Stripe.

If Stripe asks for a website and you do not have one, use a social media profile URL if Stripe accepts it for the setup step.

If **AU Bank Account (Direct Debit)** shows as off but you already have AU Direct Debit customers, that can be because Newie previously defaulted AU Direct Debit to on. Changing the setting affects new purchases, not existing customers.

## Service-Level BNPL Control

Buy Now Pay Later is controlled in two places:

* **Accepted Payment Methods:** turn BNPL providers on or off for the account
* **Eligible One-Off Purchase service editor:** turn **Buy Now Pay Later** on or off for that service

BNPL applies to eligible One-Off Purchases.

When BNPL is enabled on an eligible One-Off Purchase, Newie shows each BNPL provider's status in the service editor.

Statuses can include **Available**, **Not enabled**, **Pending action**, **Not available**, or **Price too high (limit ...)**.

For BNPL amount limits by provider and currency, see [Buy Now, Pay Later Payments](/guides/bnpl-payments#bnpl-amount-limits).

## International Payments

Customers can pay from outside your business country when their card or payment method is accepted.

The customer is charged in the service currency. Their bank or card issuer may charge currency conversion or international transaction fees.

Newie does not add a fee only because the customer is overseas.

Standard Newie fees still apply, and an international transaction fee may apply when funds are received in a different currency to the payout currency. See the [Fees & Limits Reference](/reference/fees-and-limits).
